Spain is a land of great contrasts, and on this special one off tour we aim to cover many of its varied habitats and their special birds as we travel from the High Pyrenees in the North down to the plains and cork oak woodlands of Extremadura in the central region. We begin our journey in the snow capped peaks of Aragon, looking for Wallcreeper, Citril Finch, Black Woodpecker and Alpine Chough, before making our way across the plains of Zaragoza, home to the near-mythical Dupont’s Lark with its wheezy song. Sandgrouse and Bustards are next on the agenda as we reach the steppes of Extremadura, a vast region dominated by great plains and sweeping ‘dehesa’ cork forests. Here the Black-winged Kite, Azure-winged Magpie and near-endemic Spanish Imperial Eagle reside, among some of the most beautiful scenery in all of Spain. From dazzling European Bee-eaters and colourful European Hoopoes to subtle Lesser Short-toed Lark and Spectacled Warbler, this tour really does have it all! You will be guided throughout by Ashley Saunders who has led many tours to these parts of Spain, assisted throughout by renowned wildlife artist and tour guide Steve Cale. You can expect to see over 175 species on this tour.
