September 21 – October 16, 2010
We observed a total of 546 species of birds on the Ecuadorian mainland. Of this total, 66 were heard only.
Ours was a leisurely tour; our modus operandi was to take the time to ensure that each of the six of us in our group got to see as many of the species encountered as possible; we not focused solely on maximizing the number of species on our bird list.
The remainder of this report presents our trip checklist for each bird family and provides some personal notes and photo images. For some of the more unusual families, Internet references providing some background information on the family is provided for educational purposes.
