Like our first Gambell tour, our Gambell II Tour group was regionally well-represented, with participants from Ontario (Canada), California, Florida, Washington, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Massachusetts, New Mexico, and Sonora (Mexico). Our totals for the tour were about normal, although we did not enjoy consistent winds from the southwest which is the norm in Gambell in the spring. As a result, this produced fewer than hoped for Asian landbirds and shorebirds on the island, but we did get to view spectacular concentrations of the breeding alcids as well as a few choice North American rarities. The camaraderie of the group was very good, and as usual, the meals were spectacular. Overall, a wonderful trip to one of the furthest outposts of North American birding destinations.
